Lower Back Pain & Spine Strength

9:04 am in Weight Problems by seph

Anyone who experiences lower back pain knows how painful it can be. Just understanding how difficult it makes the rest of your daily life is enough to make you feel overwhelmed. Eventually our mind breaks down as well wondering if it can ever go away. The truth is most people with lower back pain end up forgetting what it was like to live life without the pain.

However, there is a bright spot in your future. It starts with understanding that lower back pain can be relieved or eliminated simply by having a good and natural posture program. Granted, we also recommend a regular exercise regimen and a healthy diet, but one thing at a time here. Forget about all the medications and surgeries, because they’re not needed.  As a solution for chronic lower back pain, spine strength is the safest, fastest, most effective way to go.

The lower back must support a large amount of weight. During every moment spent up-right, the head, shoulders and even the arms apply vertical pressure on the lower back and spine. This support is maintained by hundreds of tiny muscles working together efficiently to promote a great deal of maneuverability in areas we may not even consider as being related to the back.

Much of this support and maneuverability is derived from the lower back’s inward arch toward the body. Arches are stable structures capable of efficiently supporting heavy loads and, in a classic case of function following form, feature heavily in modern and ancient architecture.

If you have a correct arch, then the structural needs are more than sufficient. The only problem is we screw it up ourselves by doing things that feel natural. When we continue to develop these bad habits, the natural arch appeal diminishes, and lower back pain develops. This is enough to pull the vertebrae out of alignment and reduce the abilities of the arch.

They simply aren’t toned enough to relieve some of the pressure that is being put on your arches. You have to change this if you plan on being successful in relieving this pressure. If not, then just continue doing what you’ve been doing and deal with the pain.

Sometimes we act to correct the problems ourselves without fully knowing how, unintentionally straining and causing tension that only makes things worse. In some instances, relaxation rather than tone is what is needed for good posture.

In order to have the correct posture, you need to keep some of the muscles contracted for a controlled period of time. If you can do this and all the others to relax, the body will be shifting back to an arched structure. Hopefully you can have this done ASAP so you can experience the benefits of a pain-free back.

It isn’t enough to simply be shown what constitutes good posture, however. Good posture is only effective if used regularly, so it is important to acquire the strength that will enable you to maintain a healthy alignment without reverting to old routines. You must also gain the confidence in your efforts to encourage perseverance, as initial changes will feel very unnatural.

The good news is that the better posture can do much more than just eliminate back pain. It can give you confidence, better overall health, and give you the joys of life you’ve been missing out on ever since your lower back pain started. Plus, when people see you walk into a room with the proper posture, you’ll have all kinds of self-confidence. It’s a great feeling, and something you shouldn’t put off any longer.

Back Pain & Spine Health

9:04 am in Weight Problems by seph

The spine is one of the most important parts of our bodies and also one of the least appreciated. Your spine supports you as you walk, sit, lift things and almost every other activity you may engage in over the course of your life. Enjoying a healthy life is only possible when you keep your spine in good shape. As one of the many millions of people worldwide who suffers from back pain, I’ve learned some ways to keep the pain under control and avoid it entirely in many cases.

Living with back pain can be a miserable experience. You cannot do the things you normally would and simple things like tying your shoes or holding your baby are cumbersome. You do not need to live that way. The first step is to understand a little about the back so you can avoid the things that will cause pain.

Your back is designed to act with gravity. The vertebra (bones) are stacked one on top of the other and are arranged with three distinct curves or arches: 1) the neck (cervical) curve, 2) the middle back (thoracic) curve and 3) the lower back (lumbar) curve.

Between each vertebra are fluid filled discs to cushion the vertebra so they don’t rub together; very painful! Attached to the vertebra are a myriad of muscles.

So, as you can see, the back is a concert of muscle, bone and cushions all acting together. When you are at rest, a good posture is important to keep the spine in its natural position. A good posture is achieved by having the shoulders aligned with the hips. When sitting, the feet are flat to the floor, the knees at right angles. When standing, the feet should be no more than shoulder width.

It is important to have all three natural curves in the back at all times. The posture tips above will help with that. But what if you already have a problem? How can you relieve that pain?  If you have bad back pain, spine strength has already been compromised.  What can you do?

Simple exercises are the ticket. These can help relieve pain that is already present as well as help avoid it altogether. Before any activity is undertaken, do some stretching and bending. This helps loosen the muscles and gets them ready for the coming activity. A basic warm up, like an athlete before an event.

If you are already in pain, there are exercises you can do, like that above, but they need to be done carefully and not overdone. Leg lifts are great for this and so are side bends and forward/backward bends. Remember, though, that if it hurts, STOP IMMEDIATELY!

With good posture and making a habit of warming up before physical activity, you’ll be able to prevent back pain in most cases. Many of those who suffer from back pain find that good posture is able to alleviate their back pain and allow them to resume their normal activities in short order.

Be good to your back and spine and it will be good to you for a long time to come. Work to improve posture and your back will reward you.

Remember to always lift with your legs and not your back – many serious back injuries are caused by improper lifting. Bend at the knee, take hold of the object to be lifted and stand up. This is a safe way to lift which watches out for your spine.

Low Back Exercise For Computer Users

8:38 pm in Weight Problems by seph

If you spend a lot of time working at your computer you know how quickly your back becomes stiff and sore. It is hard to think about good posture when you are busy working. You should take frequent breaks to stretch your back and move around. Doing a lower back exercise will also help a great deal. A good exercise for this is the standing forward bend.

The standing forward bend strengthens the entire back and hamstrings but is especially good for the lower back. Have you ever gotten up from a long stretch at the computer and not had some sort of back pain? If not, you should start taking care of your back now before you wind up with serious back problems as you get older. The standing forward bend has other benefits too. It encourages proper neck alignment, helps overcome poor posture while sitting and helps to relieve your sore tailbone.

All you basically have to do is stand with your feet together and exhale as you bend forward from the hip joints. Now, while this yoga exercise can be more advanced, we recommend only doing what feels natural in a very relaxed way. You should be able to take advantage of this at work since you can do it standing up.

By practicing this lower back exercise, you may be able to put your hands flat on the floor. That is the goal, but if you cannot do that, you will still benefit. To be flexible enough to touch the floor you must warm up your muscles which you don’t have time for at the office. You don’t need to warm up to do the standing forward bend which makes it perfect to do periodically throughout your day. To get the most benefit, you should also undertake a full posture program, but this exercise helps a lot. Stay relaxed and make slow moments. Anyone can do this exercise.

  1. Stand up straight with your feet at hip width
  2. Put your hands on your hips
  3. Lean your upper body forward and down while keeping your knees straight.
  4. Let your arms hang straight down towards the floor
  5. Relax and breathe
  6. Remain in this position for one minute
  7. Roll your back into the standing position leaving your head for last

While you do the exercise be aware of any tension in your back and body. This simple awareness will help bring relief. Paying attention to your body can help calm many discomforts.

This version of the forward bend is very good for relieving tension all throughout the back, but especially in the lower back area that receives so much abuse while sitting. If you take advantage of this low back exercise then you’ll be able to relax those muscles and get the relief needed to keep your productivity levels high and eliminate the low back pain.

However, it’s important to understand that your best option is making this a part of your daily routine. Only you know what you need to do to add this to your daily schedule, but we recommend before bed, when you wake up in the morning, or a couple times a day during your break times (especially your lunch break). This will not only relieve the pain you’re experiencing now, but also prevent it from returning.

Lower back pain is frustrating. You can get temporary relief with over the counter pain relievers, but a better approach is to get permanent relief in a natural way by doing posture exercises. You will become more flexible, relieve muscle tension and lose the aggravation of dealing with chronic pain.

Lumbar Back Pain And The Secret To Relief

10:07 pm in Weight Problems by seph

Lumbar back pain is agonizing and difficult to live with. So much of what we do depends on having a sound and healthy lower back, and without this, every moment spent up-right and every task we perform is incredibly painful. Since it isn’t usually apparent what may have caused the pain, we often find ourselves wondering if it will ever go away.

There is hope, however. Unless due to serious trauma such as a break, most lumbar back pain can be lessened or eliminated completely and naturally by a good postural program and a regular exercise routine.

The lumbar back is the site of many muscles that are key to our maneuverability. The spine alone is packed with hundreds of tiny muscles, each playing an integral role in almost every physical action we perform.

In addition to the many muscles, the lumbar back also provides support by curving in toward the body, forming an arch. Arches are stable structures capable of efficiently supporting lots of weight, which is why they appear often in both modern and historic architecture.

Unfortunately, we often lose this natural support in ways we aren’t aware of. By adopting poor postural habits for so long that they feel completely normal, we slowly draw this structure out of alignment. Then, when we hurt because of it, we aren’t sure from where the pain originates. After all, how we sit or stand doesn’t seem painful. It may, in fact, seem as if we’re doing nothing demanding at all, so why should that hurt?

Keeping the spine properly aligned can be difficult for someone not used to doing so. Often the problem involves muscles that have weakened due to disuse, and how to strengthen them and improve posture isn’t immediately obvious.

Also, sometimes we try so hard to correct our postures that we overdo it, and create new tension that makes the process even more difficult. Tension over-tires muscles, filling them with fatigue toxins that contribute to aches and pains while encouraging bad habits, thus perpetuating a difficult cycle. Proper posture does not involve strength alone.

In fact, proper posture involves a combination of strength and relaxation. If every muscle in your back tenses, the natural arches straighten into a rod. If all your muscles relax, the arches become too extreme. A good postural program tones the correct muscles while encouraging the remainder to relax, thus naturally re-enforcing the supportive arches required for a pain-free back.

A proper posture program will teach your body to find a comfortable stance, one you can hold for long periods, and train your body to hold it that way. By maintaining good and efficient posture, the pain you have long experienced will slowly diminish, or may even disappear entirely. What was once agonizing will then feel relaxed and natural.

Good posture is not only imperative for the management of pain. You will gain much confidence when you have good posture as well. People with good posture appear as if they are confident and are treated as such. All these wonderful benefits are easily achievable. In due time, you too can be benefiting from a healthy and pain-free lumbar back.

Posture Corrector – Short-Term Solution, Long-Term Problem

3:44 pm in Weight Problems by seph

Poor posture is at the root of many health problems. A healthy posture improves circulation and respiration, thus ensuring that all of your body’s systems get the nutrients they require to thrive. Poor posture results in fatigue, which in turn causes chronic aches and pains. The lower back is a prime place for these pains to manifest, as it is both the site of numerous muscles and an integral support structure for the entire body.

Resolving postural issues may seem like a lost cause. Our postures feel completely natural to us, even if we are told that they are inefficient and unhealthy. Furthermore, those same changes seem difficult and feel tiring. If the very things that can help us feel so strange, and only make things worse, how can we ever improve? Fortunately, there is a powerful secret which can eliminate both the pain and the perceived effort quickly, naturally and without as much effort as you might believe.

Poor posture is incredibly common, and exists to a lesser or greater extent in almost everyone. Its root causes are simple. Either muscles that should be strong are weak, and are unable to provide support, or muscles are unnecessarily tense and are tiring quickly. Usually the cause is a combination of both.

There are two fundamental ways to address problems of poor posture. The first involves using a back brace or other posture corrector to provide your muscles with the support they need. By redirecting your posture to something more efficient, the fatigue toxins accumulated during regular daily activities will slowly vanish and take the pain along with them. The second solution is to solve the problem at its root by strengthening the weak muscles that prevent attaining a correct posture.

Posture correctors are a great short-term solution. They give the body its needed support in a way that requires little effort. Also, posture correctors are often recommended by your doctor, another appealing reason for considering their use. In fact, posture correctors are a great deal like training wheels. They’re a great way to begin learning how to ride a bike, but training wheels must eventually come off so you’ll learn to ride naturally.

Unfortunately, posture correctors have many associated problems, ultimately making them a highly unsuitable solution for almost all postural problems. Posture correctors weaken the very muscles that you must strengthen if you hope to ever have better posture. Over time and with regular use, other muscles weaken as well, making your problems even worse. Soon you’ll find your pain increased when the brace is removed, and you’ll likely associate your posture corrector with health and well-being. In essence, you’ve become dependent on the brace, and you’ll truly never be without pain as long as it is used.

Strengthening the muscles required to support back posture is a much better solution. At first this will be painful and tiresome, but you can make a great deal of progress toward strengthening these muscles in as few as ten minutes per day. Because these muscles are fairly small, they should strengthen more rapidly, and as they do your pain will lessen.

While posture correctors may seem like the best solution to all your postural issues, they are only temporary and should never be relied upon for long as they create dependence and new problems. An exercise program, on the other hand, can fix the issues permanently, quickly and with little effort. You’ll be on the path to a pain-free back in absolutely no time.

Posture, Back Pain, And Spine Health

3:44 pm in Weight Problems by seph

Lower back pain can be quite agonizing, affecting many otherwise mundane aspects of daily living. Without a reliable and pain-free lower back, every moment spent up-right is a challenge, leaving us hopelessly wondering if the pain might ever improve or go away completely.

If you’re worried that your lower back pain will always be with you, there is good news. Unless caused by severe trauma, such as a break, lower back pain can usually be lessened or eliminated entirely by postural adjustment and a specialized exercise regimen.

The one thing that most people do not understand is that lower back pain is from poor posture. Just by sitting up straight and exercising can eliminate a lot of the pain you are suffering from each day.

One of the first things that you have to do when trying to correct your posture is by strengthening the back so that it can support the new posture. The reason why you need to strengthen these muscles is because the spine is relied on by so many parts of the body for support and maneuverability that it is imperative that is has the strength to support itself.

Being relied on all the time, the spine maintains the needed stability by its two natural arches. If you are unfamiliar with what an arch is, these are stable structures that are featured heavily in architecture.

With that said, the arch in the spine is maintained by hundreds of muscles and the tension and relaxation in them. Everytime you sit with poor posture or lean in a specific direction you are putting the vertebrae out of alignment. What happens is when the vertebrae comes out of alignment; the arches of our spine go away, which will then cause you a tremendous amount of pain.

As our postures become less and less efficient, our muscles must work harder to keep us vertical. As we work harder, we tire further and slouch more. This in turn causes us to work even harder, thus tiring more and perpetuating a vicious cycle. Ultimately we find an unhealthy equilibrium, but this imbalance causes chronic back pain.

Fortunately, all of this can be corrected. By simply learning what constitutes good posture, by strengthening disused muscles and by daily practice, this cycle can be broken. Imagine a life free of debilitating back pain. Such a life is completely within your reach.  Learn to improve posture and 99% of the problem will disappear.

You see the problem that most people have is that they will read an article just like this one but they will think that the only thing they have to do is to sit up straight a few times and it will be corrected. Once you start doing it the muscles back there have to be strong enough to support it, and you have to incorporate it into your lifestyle so that your body will get used to it.

Just by doing the simple things of sitting up straight not only will help you with your lower back pain but will affect others as well. People see you making changes and see what it is doing to affect your body everyday and they will want to make changes as well. So go out there and get all the knowledge you can about how to sit up straight, and the various exercises you can do to strengthen your back, and you will be on your way to a pain free life.  If there is one thing that is caused by poor posture, back pain is it.

Exercise For Back Pain – The Key To Lifelong Back Health

6:35 pm in Weight Problems by seph

Chronic back pain is difficult to live with. Our backs are key to every moment spent up-right and every task we perform, be it heavy lifting or merely sitting still. When suffering from back pain, everything we do becomes difficult at best or impossible at worst.  Fortunately, a simple application of exercise for back pain relief can drastically reduce your chronic back pain.

Quite often, the cause of back pain is so simple that it’s something taken for granted. Poor posture is at fault for most chronic aches and pains in the back. We don’t realize this, however, because we typically associate pain with something that just happened, rather than with behaviors that feel completely natural.

For good overall health it is important to make sure that you understand how to improve posture. Since it supports so much weight and it allows us to remain up-right, it is important to make sure that everything with the back is taken care of. And since there are many nerve endings that connect with the spine, a lot of caution must be taken.

When things such as postural issues are not addressed, a serious problem can form later on down the line. When there is a lot of strain being placed on the muscles in the back, you will notice that you will begin to hunch which results in a lot of tension being placed on your spine. The muscles then tighten which shifts your vertebrae out of its proper alignment. When this happens, a lot of pain and stiffness result and the terrible cycle will simply continue.

Avoiding such types of back pain is simple. The first thing that you want to do is to focus on some specialized muscles strengthening execises. Such exercises will allow your bodu to resume a healthy posture. Along with the exercising you will need to properly stretch your muscles. Even though the correct posture will feel very unnatural in the beginning it will begin to feel better with each passing day. If you skip out on the stretching, your body will not be able to break its old habits. Over time, misaligned vertebrae will slowly shift into the position that they are supposed to be in.

Remember, there is no better time than now to work on your posture. Just remember to keep up the good work, even though it may feel a little uncomfortable at first. Set yourself up with a regimen of exercises specifically for enhancing your posture. You will with just a little effort begin to feel much better in your back.

If the thought of exercise conjures images of specialized equipment or hours spent in a gym, relax. Postural exercises are usually very simple, only taking a few minutes of your day. They rarely involve equipment, and if something is needed, it is usually fairly simple to acquire and use. They can be incorporated into your day as part of breaks at the office. The idea behind postural exercises isn’t to burn calories, increase heart rate or even to break a sweat. Rather, it is about strengthening groups of muscles you may not have even known exist. Also, because these muscles are fairly small, they usually tone up rapidly and, once your body assumes correct posture naturally, the muscles often stay strong without the need for continual specialized exercise.

There is no reason to continue living with back pain everyday. Since the problem can usually be corrected with ease, you need to know that you will not be forced to suffer with your back pain much longer. By taking the first few steps to a healthy back, you will be at your goal of being pain free in no time at all.

Back Posture & Chair Sitting Habits To Relieve Your Back Of Pain

5:40 am in Weight Problems by seph

We may consider ourselves lucky to have been born in the 20th century, but there are disadvantages to our modern times. Had we instead been born in Victorian times, we’d have found it nearly impossible to slouch, slump or otherwise adopt relaxed postures without appearing strange to those around us. Instead, we’d be sitting at the edge of the chair, backs ramrod straight, looking straight ahead with absolutely no give to our spinal cord. That would have done wonders for our posture, but it certainly would not make us feel or look relaxed.

This automatic societal postural training, once innately learned and incorporated into daily life, has unfortunately vanished from the usual physical training made available to children both at home and at school. Watching TV while lounging bonelessly on the sofa with the upper torso slumped onto tummy is often not corrected whereas once it would have been, and we carry these habits forth into adulthood.

Fortunately, posture training does not require the pain or discipline used during the Victorian era. A simple routine, ten minutes per day, can do wonders to improve posture, reduce back pain and increase confidence, completely naturally and without drugs or surgeries. You can have great back posture, chair posture, and standing posture.

So to make sure that our neck and spine do not suffer over much in the future because of our bad posture during our childhood and youth, we have to look at the best way in which we can improve our posture, especially when we are sitting on sofas or in chairs.

Start to improve your posture the moment you sit down. Lift your head high, but not so high as to create unnecessary tension in the neck. You should be able to draw a straight line between the tip of your chin and the top of your lap. In this position, the head is oriented as it naturally should be relative to the spinal cord.

Now, focus on your shoulders. Many people chronically elevate them toward their ears, placing unnecessary tension on the spinal cord and lowering their chins toward the torso as a result. Lower your shoulders away from your ears, letting them relax into a more natural pose.

Now is the time for your spinal column to straighten itself, neither backwards nor forwards. It should be vertical.

Now, tuck in your stomach. This not only helps improve your appearance by making the stomach less noticeable, but also tones muscles that support the upper torso. To tuck the stomach, imagine drawing your breath for a three count. The muscles used to accomplish this are those you must activate to provide the correct upper torso support required for good resting posture.

Tail bone strain is another factor that contributes to aches and pains, so avoid applying unnecessary pressure to this region while at rest. Tilt the pelvis forward and transfer weight onto the hips, which are wider and can distribute weight evenly. Ensure that the chair is tilted somewhat forward, and that the back is not recessed.

Middle Back Pain – An In-Depth Look

2:39 am in Weight Problems by seph

Middle back pain can be a real problem, especially in these times. People running this way and that never bothering to take care of themselves as they should. If you know someone that has back problems then you should try to help them. Sympathize with how painful middle back pain can be. It can mean a lot if you just try to understand their problem.

Do not forget to help your friend realize how most back pain can be alleviated, except if there was a severe trauma that resulted in grave problems. An exercise routine can greatly benefit them, and help lessen the pain. This will need time and effort, and a desire to get their back in good shape again.

As well, you and your friend should learn more about the spine. The middle spine, known as the thoracic spine as well, has 12 vertebrae. It is curved to accommodate the lungs and heart as well as support weight. The curve is frequently exaggerated by slouching over a desk. To help this, try to take breaks from your desk and perform some stretches that will help with this problem.

This slumping effect can throw off the natural curvature of the neck because the head will have to compensate and extend to be able to read the monitor. This can eventually lead to bad neck damage latter in life. You may have noticed those old people with slanted necks. Well, that is from being slumped over a desk all day, but in their case, it was slumped over a typewriter.

Unfortunately, if the curves in the spine are out of proportion, they force your muscles to work harder. Since the spine cannot support you like it needs to it forces the muscles attached to it to support more.

Having good back health is wonderful. Several people unfortunately lack the muscle strength required to hold their spine in correct alignment. This over time can cause many back problems, and health matters. There are cases where it can even cripple a person for life. You certainly do not want to forget to exercise and stretch your back muscles properly to keep them healthy.

There are people who do not enjoy good back health at all. They are so wound up and tense which causes the muscles to tires quickly. This is often because they are stressed out and constantly ready to pursue something. If you can imagine a tightly wound up spring, it is great for short-term use, but not much after that.

The best technique to train the muscles that control the middle back is to condition them to work together. Some will relax, while others contract. Additionally they must support your spine’s alignment so that they spine can safely and easily sustain your body weight in a relaxed way.

An appropriate posture routine will train your body to achieve good posture. Once you do that, you will be able to hold a proper posture for a long time. If teach your body to hold your posture in the correct way, there will be no pain.

Have a great time enjoying your new found confidence and pain-free back when you improve posture. Remember to be happy, and healthy.

Back Pain Exercise – The Secret To A Pain Free Back

1:03 pm in Weight Problems by seph

We all have back pains sooner or later. Back pain can be excruciating, debilitating, and just plain annoying. But take heart in the fact that you do not have to face it alone. Many people suffer as you do and finding support for your problem isn’t as hard as it looks. People with the same problem are understanding of your issue, and can give you some advice on dealing with it. Luckily, simple back pain exercise can work wonders.

It is imperative to have good spinal health. Your back is essential to your overall good health. The muscles in your back integrate with your spinal cord to make the support system for your body. You use your back muscles more than you are aware of, and taking good care of them is extremely important.  The best way to improve posture is by exercising these muscles.

Agonizing back pain can certainly be uncomfortable. Thankfully, there are exercises that can better your comfort level along the entire back. There are some simple stretches and exercises that can result in you experiencing improved back health, and that is something we all want of course.

Posture is something many people do not consider however, it is very important. Poor posture can lead to problems. Stretching the back and help lessen repetitive tension in the back caused by poor posture. Tense muscles ache and can pull the spine out of alignment. This will hurt your support system and will make things that were once simple such as lifting, or even moving a very painful experience.

Certainly, there are several ways to increase the capability of your support system. By strengthening the back, you can support more weight. The stronger muscles can reinforce the vertebrae of the back. This might help in lessening your pain. As well, it can improve your overall health, and prevent issues if you have not had them yet. Do not forget, prevention goes a long way.

However do not forget about the other things. Stretching is important. Do not just do strengthening exercises that tighten up muscles. Many posture programs out there neglect stretching, seemingly only to increase the tension in your body. After all strengthening without stretching them will just make them ball up into knots. No one likes to have a back full of knots.

Of course in the event you have a sudden pain there are a few things you can do about it. Another good way to relieve pain is to focus one’s awareness on a painful area. It might feel more painful at first, as you relax the muscle. But after focusing on it for a bit and listening to the messages your muscle is giving you, it will relax in its own time. Just remember to be patient and breathe slowly.

If you all of a sudden experience back pain, there are some things you can do to help the issue. You can alleviate the pain by concentrating on the painful area. At first, it may feel rather painful, as you relax the muscle. However, after concentrating on it for a while and listening to the messages your body is giving you, it will relax on its own in due time. Just have patience, and breathe deeply.
